Do you have a backyard (or front yard?) that is just a bit of wasted space? Maybe you like the idea of having a couple of chooks to get some fresh eggs? Or maybe you want to really learn the principles of permaculture, and start your own little market garden to feed not only yourself, but others in your local community - and earn a bit of money while doing it!
No one can resist fluffy little baby chickens!
Milkwood Permaculture are dedicated to teaching eager folk about all this and more, in a variety of locations. I was lucky enough to be invited to take some photos of an 'Intro to Market Gardening' course held at the lovely local Buena Vista Farm, nestled between Gerringong and Gerroa on the NSW South coast.

I was only present for a short part of the course, but the wealth of knowledge shared by course presenter Michael Hewins was astounding - he really knows his stuff! You can read more and see some more photos of the day over on Milkwood's blog.

I've visited Buena Vista a few times… Fiona also runs workshops on home cooking and other ways of using her fab, fresh farm produce, so a huge bonus of attending this particular course was getting to sample Fiona's amazing cooking at lunchtime!!!
Fiona is hands down a magician when it comes to preparing food...

I strongly urge you to check out the workshops available with both Milkwood Permaculture and Buena Vista Farm - getting your hands dirty, and preparing and eating the healthy, organic food you can produce yourself is so good for the soul, not to mention the planet!
If you have attended a workshop with either Milkwood or Buena Vista, I'd love for you to leave a comment and let me know what you thought!
